In the new screen, in the left part click on Security and Login. Then you will be able to see all the places you have connected to. If you are unfamiliar with any of the devices or locations, it is a strong sign that your Facebook account was hacked.

Other indicators include password, email, or name changes you haven’t made sent messages you don’t recognize, or posts you’ve never created.

Your Facebook account was hacked. What now?

If it’s certain that your account has been hacked and that intruders have access to it, there are a few steps you can take. They are:

1. Change password

If you were able to log in, the first thing you have to do is change your Facebook password. To do this, go to Settings, Security and Login, scroll down to Login, and click Change Password.

Then enter your current password and create a new password (preferably using a password manager). Now, you will be able to see where you are logged in to log out.

If you no longer have access after your Facebook account has been hacked, you will need to reset your password. For this, there is a Forgot password? just below the login menu. Then just enter your email and you will receive a link to change your password.

If the hacker has changed the account email, you will receive a notice in the original email with a special link for you to ensure your security.

2. Disconnect from other Facebook sessions

After changing your password, go back to the menu where you found your Facebook account was hacked. There, you can click on the three-dot menu on the right to log out of each session or click on the Logout All Sessions button. Remember, only do this if you know the password!

If you don’t recognize any of the devices or locations, you can also click Not you? in the three-dot menu to see all the details and ensure your safety.

3. Notify Facebook of the hack!

If your account has been hacked to send spam advertisements and messages, you are required to report this to Facebook via this link.

That’s because it’s quite possible for Facebook to block you or to suspend your account for the actions the hacker took. By doing this, you will manage that risk.

4. Remove suspicious apps

Now it’s the moment of painful truth: it’s quite possible that your Facebook account wasn’t actually hacked, but that you were in fact the one who gave access to some malicious app that was then able to access your account!

In other words, the solution here is to remove these apps. To do this, go to Settings and then Apps & Websites. Then you can remove each one individually, and it’s good to remove all Expired ones, too.

5. Use two-factor authentication

We’ve talked about it in several recent articles, and it’s certainly one of the best ways to avoid having your Facebook account hacked in the future, especially if it ever was in the past.

With this authentication method, you will ensure that no one will be able to access your account without having access to your smartphone to get the access code.
